Carol's Life Recording

I think the relationship with my parents is the most important for me. First, they gave me the chance to this world, I had my meaning and life. Second, they are my first teachers, they taught me how to be a person, how to treat others. When I grow up, they would allow me to have my own value to the world and life. Sometimes we would talk about these and I always learn something from them. Third, now they are more likely my friends, for some things, they just gave me opinions and let me make decisions. I hope the time can go slowly, I can have more time to stay with them.

Yesterday 8/6, professor Jason took us to SUMA to visit the exhibition called Al Farrow: Wrath & Reverence.  This exhibition I took pictures of was Menorach VI, 2008. It was made of steel, guns, and bullets, 35*37*15 in. Collection of Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson, 21c Museum Hotels.  From illustration, I knew the candles were put into guns. In my opinion, when we pray for some events, we need to emblaze the candles to express the emotion of missing. At first, if I didn't look at the tour guide magazine, I didn't know the candles were put on the gun. I think the artist wants to express dissatisfied with war and want to be a peaceful world. It also expressed pray to the people who died in the war. We should treasure the current peace because it is exchanged by countless lives. At the same time, we need to treasure current life and live.

What's my ideal birthday gift? Why? My ideal birthday gift is a letter from my friends. I like the characters that gave me happiness. As the electronic develop, most people don't like to write letters to friends. Sometimes just a celebration card with some not useful gifts. For me, I think a letter is enough, a sentient letter is the behavior of our relationship. I am not interested in clothes, shoes, and cosmetics. If my friends give me this, I will be confused about how to deal with them, I won't be willing to share the gifts which I get from others. Until now I still have some gifts that I don't know how to deal with. Therefore I think instead of spending money on buying gifts, the friends can sit down to think about the stories and experience we spent together. I think I will happy with this and my friends can save more energy and money on picking up gifts.

Today, ALCC held an activity to bowling. The destination was about 10 mins driving from school. When we got there, few people were playing for a long time. We chose the shoes which correct size and we were divided into 6 groups. The shoes were tough. The bowling bowl was so heavy so that I consider I cannot do it. Luckily, I found a lighter bowl that was better. It was my first time to play bowling, I didn't know how to hold it, Bob showed me how to hold it. Through many times of practice, I think it was not so heavy and I can afford it. It totally had ten rounds, however, our group considered it just had five rounds, so when we finished the fifth round. Nobody prepared to play the next round until the professor came here to tell us. Afterward, we shared these chances to Jason, he was really good at bowling and he was enjoyable to do this. By the way, the hamburger here was very delicious! Overall, I think it was a good chance to experience this activity. I also realized practice...

Today, from 10 am to 12 pm, we made our own scrapbook. Putting something indelibility memories on it. For me, the high school experience is one of the most important memories. I called this scrapbook The Ordinary Life. Although my high school life was full of study, I didn't have a lot of time to relax. I actually enjoy this period, because of my friends, classmates, and teachers. We created so many indelibility memories on there. I love them. They are particular people for me. I also appreciate the school that let me have the chance to study abroad to know more friends and learn more culture. When I met difficulties, my teachers encouraged me and gave me solutions to figure out. They are so kind and passionate. There is more like my other home, it is a warm place. I will remember them forever. Because it's the bridge to SUU, I also stick some leaves on it. I am really like the environment here, I like the trees everywhere, which makes me feel good and happy. Today, at 10 am my classmate and I went to the Farmer Market. It set up in the main street, it is closer to the SUU. When I got there, there were lots of people gather there. It is my first time to the farmer market. It not only sold fresh vegetable but also sell food and drink. I bought honey and smoothies. They are delicious! At the same time, I went to Pizza Hut, it is popular in my hometown when I was young. I often went to this restaurant in China. However, I didn't try this in the USA. We ordered double flavors of chicken wings. I didn't see these dishes in China. I love them. Taste good! I prefer bone-out because it is easy to eat. I also found a personal size pizza, I can choose the topping and sauce. That's good and interesting. I also didn't see this dish in China. Overall, it is a wonderful lunch and not expensive. The same restaurant has differences in different countries. I should accept people have different traits, there will not have two same leaves...

Last Tuesday at 9 am, I interviewed professor Robb McCollum in General Classroom. First, I asked some questions about his background. He is the professor at ALCC and also is the leader of ALCC. He got a Ph.D. in TESOL and Instructor psychology. He also has two children. In my opinion, he can be considered a successful person. I divided success into three parts. Academic and career, personal, service to others. He had achievement in his academic career, he was kind and patient in his personal success. In addition, as a teacher, the purpose is to help students to learn new knowledge. I was curious about his opinion about whether he is a successful person. He thought service to others is the most important one. He said: "You can do No.3(helping others) very well if you don't also have the other two." Last Thursday to Friday(7/18-7/19), I with my classmate Jing, joined the camping activity. The leader Amy picked us up at 2:15 pm. We spent about two hours arriving at the destination( Fishlake National Forest Park )  This was the girl camping. Most of them were high school students. We went boating and hiking in the afternoon. In the evening, we singing and talking about interesting things. We also wrote some small notes for each other. In addition, it was beautiful at night, the sky was full of stars. It was hard to see this scene in my hometown. Around Friday morning, we actually began to sleep. We were excited so that cannot fall asleep quickly. However, it was really cold in the tent. I can hear the sound of the wind. That was my first time to live in a tent and camping. On Friday, we prepared to package and leave. Around noon, we came back to the cedar city. Last Wednesday(7/24), around 9 pm, I found the beautiful scenes out of the window. I ran out of the dorm and took some pictures. At the same time, I shared the moment with my parents through Wechat(app). I love beautiful scenes and I am willing to keep them. When I met something unhappy, I would like to look at these pictures, that can make me feel happier. I also realize I should learn to record the life, time goes quickly, I like the memory. Regardless of happy or unhappy, if without these memories, I cannot grow up quickly. Many things happen in a flash, If I didn't at a glance for the window, I couldn't enjoy this beautiful sunset. I should often appreciate this world. Be thankful for nature.

I stayed student center to find people to interview, the first person I interviewed who was a junior student on campus. His major is construction management, his name is Webster.  He didn't think he was a successful person, because he wasn't rich and he didn't have any accomplishments. In his opinion, he thought a successful person should be intellectual and hard-working. He didn't think he was belonged to this kind of people. Then, I asked him " Could you give me an example of a successful in your life?" His answer is his major professor Mohanmed Askar. He can speak six languages, that's cool. Also, he told me the successful person should have a successful business and happy family. It is my first interview in this semester, I was nervous before I greeted with this person. Yesterday afternoon, we had a assignment about interview. We should interview people about their opinions about success. I stayed student center to find people to interview, the second person was in international affairs called Alex. He is local people and he is senior now. He worked in the international affairs.  Maybe it was the second one, I had experience for the first. So I was not nervous about this. He was kind and always had smile, it reduce my nervous effective. He said he was the successful person, it surprised me. Because I couldn't believe it came up quickly, in my imagination, if the person said he wasn't a successful person then I can ask the following questions. However, that was OK. He gave me the standard of success. He thought he is happy everyday, he likes his job and he has own Friends. Also, he is healthy. I like this answer. Yesterday afternoon, we had a assignment about interview. We should interview people about their opinions about success. I stayed student center to find people to interview, the third person was freshman called kedi. He didn't think he was a successful person. Because he didn't done anything, he didn't have achievements for his life. He thought the successful person should have sense of forethought mere. Also, he thought one of his friends xinwan ii successful person. Because he is good-looking. That was interesting, everyone has different definition of success. I realize some things cannot be unite, everyone has their perspectives for the one thing.

Last Friday, I with my classmate, Jing to watch Spider Man in Megaplex Theatres in 10 am. There was a little people in the theatre. Plus, we bought ice cream. What a nice day! It was almost fully my first time to watch Marvel moive. I didn't like watching superhero moive, because I think they were the same ending that hero rescue the world. So I seldom watched this kind of movie and I didn't have so much expectaion for this movie. However, I was wrong. I found the process was important than the ending. Everyone knows, we will die one day. The key is how can we have a satisfying life before we pass away. We should enjoy the process of living in this world. We should appreciate it. After this experience, I decided to watch the before Marvel moives, it was successful for reasons. In addition, the main character was so cute and handsome!!!

Last Wednesday, at 6 pm, my classmate Jing and I came to the leader's home to learn how to build a tent. That prepared for the next Thursday camping. The stuff in the tent bag were so heavy, there were some support frame in it. First, we open the tent. Next, we supported the poles of corner that the tent can stand. Then, we used the nails to stick the ground that the tent would not waggle. The last step was to connect all the poles together through the top poles. The tent was fixed well. It was interesting experience, it was not hard but need us to pay attention to do it. We should noiced some small components lest them lost. I learned how to build a tent which can accommodate four people. I also realized that there were lots of things I didn't try in the world. After we finished this, I saw the beautiful sunset on the mountain, it was beautiful and amazing. Cedar night was not hot, it was comfort, that let me want to stay longer in here. Last Monday, I cooked chicken wings and broccoli by myself. It costed me one hour to do it. It was my first time to doing it without anyone helped me. It went well than I thought at first. I put oil first and put some groceries, then add some sauces. If tasted good, that's done. Actually, I didn't meet any troubles. If anything, I was splashed with oil for many times. When I finished cooking, I asked my mum about this thing, she told me because the food with water cause this situation. Since then, I seldom was splashed with oil. I am happy about it. The success of the first time, it gave me much confidence about cooking. I also realized the importance of the first time. If without the first try, there is nothing to follow. I trust through this summer, I will improve my cooking skill.

Today, I went outside by myself to observe the SUU, I found this place which I didn't notice before. It brought some memories to me. I like the shadows. Usually under the trees I can see them, I like sitting here for preventing from the sun. It is cooler than under the sun. This view also reminds me the Pine Valley. I really like that place. There were lots of trees and stream. That made me feel comfortable and happy. I began to think whether I can live in here. However, this idea disappeared until last week, I paid respects to my grandfather at his tomb, it placed on the mountain. It was beautiful, but lots of mosquito around the trees. I couldn't bear them!! If I stayed on the mountain, I will face them each summer, I don't think I can bear them. From this experiece, I realize that I will consider things more detailed.

Now that it's over, what are my first thoughts about this overall project? Are they mostly positive or negative?  Interesting and meaningful. I learn a lot from my project and I practice my skills through this project. I consider they are mostly positive. If positive, what comes to mind specifically? Negative? I did a lot for the first time. I experienced a lot I didn't do before. I developed some skills and solved some problems I didn't thought before. For example, I interviewed strangers for the first time, I am afraid of doing this kind of things. However, the first stranger gave me confidence to interview next one. In addition, during this time, I practice my public speaking. That was a impreseive experience. What were some of the most interesting discoveries I made while working on this project? About skills? About myself? About others? When I edited the videos, I found some useful and interesting apps. That they were helpful for me. I also learnt something from...

This Friday, Utah Summer Game took place in SUU. Its opening ceremony at 8:30 pm. When we came here, there were lots of people stay there. On the way to the location, we met a interesting thing. When we almost arrived here, it began to rain suddenly. In case of that we took the umbrella. We ran to the pavilion to hide from the rain. Gradually, more and more people came here to hide rain. However, at that time, we saw the beautiful scene. The sky's color was beautiful. It changed quickly. I took some pictures to record it. And the rain stopped quickly too. People returned to the playground to watch the ceremony again. They were still excited. It was a romantic rain. Rain with the sunset. During the ceremony, we saw the firework. I haven't saw the fireworks for few years. I was so excited. However, we missed the last firework. We left a little early.  I am looking forward to the next Utah summer game! I won't leave early! This Wednesday, I tried a new restaurant called The Pastry Pub. It was a small restaurant. I ordered Turkey Sandwich. It was bigger than I ever ate. It was salty for me. However, it was full of stuff, it was enough for dinner. I think it was cheaper than most sandwich restaurant. It was substantial. I want to try new flavor next time.

Today, Maggie Lewis gave us a presentation. Ashleigh Zimmerman helped her to give some details. I think it is a excellent presentation. The presenter was good at body language and eye contact. I can listened clearly about what she talked about. She also gave me a sense which I was involved in this presentation. She also gave us some chances to discuss together. For some words that maybe we can't understand well, they would give us explanations. Patient and sweet. A good experience about presentation.

This Wednesday, the school organized the trip to Pine Valley. On 10 am, we left on time. It was a sunny and windy day. On the way to the destination, I saw so many cows and sheep. I also saw the river when we nearly arrive the location. So, when I got off the van, I had destination to go. I really like the water and stream. I felt calm down and comfortable when I stayed there. It was a good place to avoid hot. Cool wind came to my hug. Afterwards, we tried to find the other side of river. Then, we found a forest. We can smell the fragrance of the pine. That let us feel relaxed and easy. I liked to photograph the water. This place was satisfied my acquirement. I also took so many photos. Excursion also is good way to exercise. And we can find some interesting things and feelings. I loved this place. It was a wonderful trip experience.

This Saturday, I went to the Saturday Market. It lasted from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. At the beginning, I though it was a place to sell vegetable and fruit. However, I was wrong. It was to sell secondhand items Some books or little things or dresses. In a cheap price. It looked like tiaozao Market in China. The same form.

I watch this video about underground. This video mainly talked about London Tube and further talked about the world's underground. The presenter thought maps can represent the civilization. The London underground came together in 1908. It was the last century things. It was amazing. I admired the inventor! It had eight different independent railways. However, it was a little complex for people. Afterwards, people realized the system was more important.  Harry Beck made every station color correspond to the color of the line. This map would be useful for people. This was more like diagram. Now, so many cities and countries also use this form. So, everything has its value. We should respect the things which exist in this world. It is not easy for success.

WHY THE PENCIL IS PERFECT I watch this video about pencil. The presenter thought pencil is perfect for her. She talked about the history about the pencil and her feeling. I like TED this series, small thing big idea. These presenters found some unimpressive things in life for most people. At the same time, they can find the soul of these items. They are all good at living I think. This video said that the way to make pencils never change until now. The pencils are graded on through four for different hardness. Number two being the ideal hardness for general use. In life, I usually use it for exams. Originally, when pencils were handmade, they were made round. It's hard to make. Afterwards, American invested the machine to make pencils and make a standard for them. So today's pencils are all hexagonal. Friday afternoon, I with my partner to eat the new Thai restaurant near downtown. It is closer than another Thai restaurant near Walmart. We order the sweet sticky rice with mango and fried noodle. I think one serving is smaller the other one. And it didn’t provide soup and spring roll for lunch. So I consider this restaurant is suitable for who cannot eat too much. It advantage is close to school. However, if you have car. I suggest the other Thai restaurant. It will be substantial. Each entree is same price with the other Thai restaurant. Also the new restaurant is smaller than the other one.

Thursday afternoon, I with my partner prepared to find a new restaurant that we never been before. We chose the Firehouse Subs. Taste good! I think the small one is suitable for afternoon tea. I also recommend chips. This kind of chips have special flavors. Different feelings. We think this restaurant is like theme restaurant. It may served for firemen before. We want to learn more about this. Unfortunately, shop assistants didn't know something about this. And the owner was on vacation. Trying new things is good. I can have more choices afterwards.
